5 tips to overcome social media overwhelm. As business owners and entrepreneurs, you know you need social media to grow your business, and put your brands out there… but all too often you’re managing a social media campaign alongside your core business, and juggling life, work, and family commitments.

We have this overwhelming desire (or we’ve been told) that we have to be “perfect”, and before long, this can turn our 5 minute quick post on Instagram into a downward spiral of comparing your business to other more successful businesses.

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK:

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and not able to juggle everything, then stop! If you don’t post on Instagram or facebook for a couple of days, no one is going to notice… Do something that fulfils you, and inspires you – read, go for a walk, and take a photo, or do something FUN! Taking photos of you having fun will be much more inspiring to your audience and you can use at a later date, than you sitting at home wishing you had something interesting to write about!

COMPARISION-ITIS:

How often do you go on Instagram, and see someone’s picture perfect feed and it puts you off posting… so often we can spend 20 minutes creating something, only to get an acute case of comparisonitis and then nothing gets done… (which leads me perfectly on to point 3).

CHOOSE A SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM YOU LIKE:

Choose a platform that works for you – if you like saying stuff, then maybe twitter is for you. If you’re a photo taker, and artistic, then perhaps Instagram is for you. You don’t need to do every platform – just do one or two, and do them well.

Personally, if I’m time pushed (who isn’t?!) I like Facebook Live for videos that are quick and have impact. If you’re uncertain about Facebook Lives, then I have a course to help with confidence on camera – click here if you’d like to know more.

IF YOU’RE FEELING OVERWHELMED, GET HELP:

I saw this somewhere and it resonated (probably online!) – “Social Media is like teenage fumblings…. Everybody wants to do it. Nobody knows how.”

If you need help with your strategy, hire someone. Knowing what your aims and your targets will make the process more effective, and you’ll also feel you’ve accomplished something rather than randomly posting online in a scattergun approach.
