Every once in a while, we meet these people that seem to glow with a special presence or light. Those people can have a long lasting influence on our lives, and perhaps even inspire us to do something different with our lives.

AN AMAZING WOMAN FROM BURMA…

A good few years ago now, I was backpacking through Burma, and bumbled my way into an area that was fighting the corrupt government regime. I went to look at the main monument in the town, a statue of Buddha that was perched on top of the hill. As I walked up the hill, I was told by the government soldiers to leave because a bomb had exploded there….

I walked away slightly intimidated, and unsure what was really going on. As I walked down the hill, this nun called Sister Bea appeared from a side gate and told me to come inside because it wasn’t safe to be outside. Something about her just radiated happiness and inner peace, even in this strange town in the middle of Burma.

HOW SHE DEALT WITH THE HORRORS OF THE COUNTRY…

She spoke excellent English, and explained about the government of the time, and how corrupt it was. She took me to meet villagers where they had lost everything to the Junta – the mothers that were raped while their children looked on, and the young girls forced to be sex slaves for the boy soldiers. She introduced me to a withered and wrought woman that was forced to watch her teenage daughter be raped, and as she was tied to a chair when they put a black cobra snake up her vagina to kill her. As I left her, she begged me to “Please do something.”

Their tales of gut-wrenching loss, but enormous courage and fortitude inspired me to spend the next decade of my life working in human rights journalism, and to try and change the world. She inspired me to do something positive with my life, and to look at my life as something bigger than just worrying about the size of my thighs, or my latest boyfriend disaster. I went from working in showbiz radio to doing something that I thought made a difference.

WHO INSPIRES YOU?

These people we meet are to remind us all to stop playing small, and to live the best, brightest and most positive life we can live without regret.

Remember all the amazing women that have helped shape your life, and make you the woman that you are today. Think of those women that have inspired you, and what would they want, and expect for your life? How can you step up, and be the woman that you dreamed you would be as a child? The woman that your mentor, or friend hoped and imagined you to be?

If you would like to step out of your comfortable life, and challenge yourself to live the most amazing life you’ve ever dreamed of, then start thinking about what you really want in your life.

Please do one thing today to make your childhood self – that little girl with big dreams – proud and excited. Please do one thing to help change your world.
