Are you ready to rewire your brain for success? Imagine if you had a buzzer that sounded every time you used negative language to yourSELF, or reminded us every time you say that you’re useless, or you can’t do something.
You’ve seen the game shows where the buzzer goes ERRR ERRR when someone does something, or says something. Sometimes we all need a bullsh*t detector to remind us to get out of our negative story cycle.
MY “FAILURE” STORY:
I carried around this story that I failed at everything for over 30 years just because I failed a school entrance exam.
I don’t have a game show buzzer that pings, but I do have an alarm that silently goes off at 7.45pm every evening to remind me that: “My failures are a springboard to my success.” I could choose to see that message and say, “yeah right”, or I can choose to say, oooh, yes, I can do this, and I’m not going to let it hold me back.
I consciously choose to use that reminder to think in a new way.
RE-WIRING YOUR BRAIN:
Rewiring your brain takes work and sometimes you have to suspend your cynical thoughts, and go with it.
For years people have treated the brain as one large organ that is stuck with the same neural pathways that are created at birth, but actually that’s simply not true.
Neuroplasticity has been a buzzword in self-development circles and it means that the brain can reorganise itself, both physically, and the way that it functions.
What does that mean for you? Being able to reorganise your brain means that…..you don’t have to put up with the unhelpful stories that you tell yourself. It means that the brain is an amazing instrument that can rewire itself, you just have to put yourself in the right frame of mind.
HOW TO RE-WIRE YOUR THOUGHTS:
Do some digging to understand why you have that story.
- Why do you have that belief, where did it come from?
- And then look at the story now in the present day, does it still mean that you can’t do that thing?
- Just because you thought (or were told) that you weren’t good enough (or thin enough, or clever enough, or too old, or too young) all those years ago, it doesn’t mean you can’t do it now.
UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN TO MOVE FORWARD:
Tony Robbins says you can’t just look at an overgrown garden and say, “there’s no weeds, there’s no weeds.” You have to pull out the weeds, and do some digging before the flowers will grow.
When you understand your pain, then you can rewrite your story and flip the switch on an old belief. And when you’ve rewritten your history, then you need to reinforce this so that you don’t slip back into old habits.
- Choosing to be mindful with meditation, and being calm can really help centre you, and bring you back to your logical brain rather than your cavewoman brain.
- Positive affirmations can help to reinforce a message to help you to stay focused and on track. Having affirmations on post-it notes around the house really helps, or set a silent alarm on your phone to remind yourself of your new story.
What you need to do to be alert to your QUIZ SHOW BUZZER THOUGHT?
Flip that switch and create a new story… when you rewrite your history, it’s amazing how you can be open to so many more exciting opportunities for your present and your future. I can’t wait to hear about your adventure!
