THE BENEFITS OF BEING YOUR OWN BOSS…
The freedom and flexibility to run your own business, and live where you like is one of the great perks of the 21st Century.
While living in Asia, I met so many people that were living on Koh Samui in Thailand, and enjoying the beach and sun, and also working on their business.
And the perks are immense… Imagine never having to ask your boss to take holiday again.
You never have to ask your boss about a sick day for your child.
You get to decide when you go on holiday and not your boss, and you don’t have to deal with office politics ever again.
You can work from anywhere… last month I worked from the subbed in Cyprus and got my business featured in the Daily Mail.
I decided to set up my own business because I couldn’t see a way to make work work.
I didn’t want to be living in the shadow of my former career, and I still wanted to work and be someone other than little one’s mum (as much as I ADORE and cherish being that person too).
I’m up early typing this as everyone else is sleeping. I feel so excited and passionate about coaching my amazing group of entrepreneurs that I leap out of bed in the morning.
Life didn’t used to be that exciting. It was a struggle to get juggle work, and career and family. It was a juggle to balance everything.
The wonderful thing about having your own business is that you get to choose the hours you work, and you can fit them round your life and family.
OVERCOME THE OVERWHELM
Being your own boss gives you a wealth of benefits both financial and personal, but it can bring some downsides.
It can be all consuming and overwhelming unless you learn to outsource and manage your team effectively….
I also know how overwhelming it can be, and how difficult it can be to know what to focus on, and where to focus, and the key thing is to outsource to a great team.
I see now with my clients how bloody scary and overwhelming it can be, and when we begin our sessions together they are so overwhelmed that they don’t know what goals they can achieve.
They are frightened to be vulnerable and put themselves out there and tell their story.
But the honest truth is that the more you get clarity on your goals, create your vision, and get visible, the more your business can scale and grow.
HOW TO LIVE THE LAPTOP LIFESTYLE AND TRAVEL WITH KIDS:
When you travel and find somewhere you like… think about hiring a place for 3 months so that you can have a base, and feel “settled”. Places like Bali or Thailand offer “laptop lifestylers” lots of healthy, cheap options to enjoy a luxurious lifestyle at a fraction of the cost.
Think about options like “Airbnb” or home swaps for when you’re travelling with kids.
Outsource what you can… your social media and the daily grind to enable you to focus on the bigger picture, and also the “paid for” content.
Use systems like Asana to help you juggle who’s doing what.
