WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG?

As an entrepreneur – whether you’re a solopreneur or a mumpreneur, or you have a team of VAs, social media managers and digital managers, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to know your business. 

As someone who LOVES TO OUTSOURCE, I paid the price when something went wrong. 

I’d hired someone that was not fit for purpose and my business suffered. 

It was my wedding anniversary, and my husband came home from work to find me in tears…

As an online entrepreneur we are the website creator, and fixer, and do-er. Yes, we have people to help us, but what happens if that goes wrong?

As an entrepreneur, it can be frustrating when tech systems don’t go your way.

When I worked in television, I would dial a number and a technical magician would appear and miraculously make my problem go away.

BE THE CEO OF YOUR BUSINESS:

When you have a small team, it’s down to you as the CEO to make things work.

This week I learned a valuable lesson – I paid someone for tech support and strategy… but things didn’t pan out.

I had several days of feeling annoyed and upset and frustrated, and then I realised that knowledge is power.

The buck stops HERE.

No more tears.

No more signing up for false promises.

No more “shopping” for a solution that will help me manage my business.

It’s so often as entrepreneurs we fall for the shiny new thing promising all kinds of wizardry.

We fall for the solution that promises a streamlined and strategic system that will enable us to grow our business.

So what happens when it doesn’t work?

  • Communicate to your clients and readers that there’s been a technical error and apologise. 
  • Don’t just rely on Facebook ads and testimonials… go with recommendations from friends and business buddies. 
  • If something’s not ready, just hold off until it IS READY. No one is going to notice (except your ego). 

It is such a valuable and important lesson for anyone running a company. If you outsource everything, and don’t understand how your systems work, then it puts you in a position of weakness.

WHY KNOWLEDGE IS POWER:

In my determination not to be beaten by the situation, I’ve signed up for a coding course – not because I want to start designing websites, but because knowledge is power.

I’m not alone… Rhianna claimed she lost $9m in one year because of bad advice from her accountants. Poor advice costs the UK £6.4 billion a year.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW? 

What do you need to implement to fully understand all aspects of your business?

What more do you need to learn?

What do you need to know in order to ensure that you make smart and effective decisions for your organisation?

Remember, you don’t need to do everything, and I outsource as much as I can!

But I do think it’s important to understand all parts of the business.
