How to Stay Productive (and Sane) as a Solopreneur When Life Feels Like A Lot

If you’ve hit that point where everything feels like too much – winter routines, darker evenings, school runs, Christmas events, work deadlines, and trying to keep yourself vaguely functional – you are not alone.

This time of year has a special talent for piling all the things onto our plates at once.
And if you’re a solopreneur? That plate is already overflowing before life even adds tinsel.

But I’ve found a way to keep my business running smoothly and maintain my sanity… and it is beautifully simple:

👉 Batching.
👉 Planning ahead.
👉 Creating enough breathing room so life doesn’t knock the wind out of your business.

Let me walk you through how I do it – especially in the colder, more chaotic months.

Why winter is the BEST time to get organised

There’s something about winter that can make us feel heavy and slow.

Shorter days.
Lower energy.
More family commitments.
School concerts. Carol services. Endless coughs and colds.
And the pressure of “finishing the year strong” while also “starting next year right”.

It’s A LOT.

Which is why batching becomes a solopreneur’s secret weapon – it gives you space, structure, and sanity.

When you plan your content, emails, and offers in advance, you suddenly:

✨ Stop firefighting every week
✨ Reduce the pressure of daily creativity
✨ Keep momentum even when life throws curveballs
✨ Free up mental space for family, rest, and actual joy

The system I use to stay on top of everything (even when I’m exhausted)

1. Start with your energy

Instead of forcing productivity, I look at my real energy levels.

Winter calls for slower, more intentional work – and that’s okay.
This season actually rewards planning more than hustling.

Light candles, grab a blanket, and ask:
“What do I actually have capacity for this week?”

You’ll be amazed how much you get done when you stop battling yourself.

2. Batch by theme, not by task

Trying to do everything at once is what burns us out.

So I batch based on the type of brain I need:

🧠 Creative brain: filming, writing posts, brainstorming
🧮 Tech brain: uploading to YouTube or my podcast, funnels, automation
💗 Coaching brain: client calls, audio messages, voice notes
🌿 CEO brain: planning launches, checking finances, mapping strategy

In winter, I give myself longer creative windows because ideas need more warm-up time when it’s pitch-black at 4pm.

3. Use a simple 3-part weekly structure

Every week I follow my simple workflow:

MONDAY → CEO Morning + Planning
• look at goals
• review revenue
• plan the week
• set 1–3 priorities (maximum!)

MIDWEEK → Deep Content Day
• film videos or reels
• record podcast episodes
• batch emails
• write LinkedIn posts

FRIDAY → Light Admin + Reset
• scheduling
• tidying up systems
• prep for next week
• early finish because… movie night 😉

When life feels chaotic, the structure holds me.

4. Do a seasonal content batch (the BEST survival move)

Batching is my favourite because:

🔥 You reduce pressure during the holidays
🔥 You give Future You the gift of breathing room
🔥 You start September or January already organised
🔥 You stay visible even when you’re offline on the beach or eating mince pies

Batch:

✨ 8–12 LinkedIn posts
✨ 4 emails
✨ 1–2 YouTube videos
✨ One strong offer push (e.g., a workshop, high ticket launch or a low-cost product)

Your whole January can be sorted before the year even ends.

5. Let “Good Enough” be good enough

Holidays are not the time for perfectionism.
It is for sustainability, warmth, and simplicity.

Done is always better than perfect, and during the holidays, “done” keeps your business alive.

6. Give yourself permission to rest

Rest is not a reward.
Rest is part of your business strategy.

If you are pushing yourself through this entire season, you’ll hit September or January already exhausted.

Instead:

💗 Work in short bursts
💗 Embrace cosy slow productivity
💗 Allow for your seasonal rhythms
💗 Choose spaciousness wherever you can

You can grow AND go gently at the same time.

Final Thoughts: You don’t need more hustle – you need more structure

Success as a solopreneur isn’t about doing everything.
It’s about setting yourself up so that life’s chaos doesn’t derail your business.

So this month, try:

✔️ Batching
✔️ Planning
✔️ Seasonal content creation
✔️ Lower-pressure workflows
✔️ More rest

Your future business – and your future self – will thank you.
