In my 20 years working in journalism, I rarely build a story around a press release. It’s better to think of a press release as a fact sheet, and as the basis, and starting point to target a journalist.

It’s much better to send a personalised email to journalists. Equally important is also telling them about your service or business.

Don’t just send out 40 press releases, and think your job is done. Talk to each journalist individually, and you’ll get a better response. But make sure you have the right journalist’s contact details.
