Journalism Strategies to improve your blog post writing.
Writing for a newspaper or magazine is very similar to blog post writing. You just have to consider your audience in writing, and what the reader wants to hear from you. This blog post will teach you some of the basic blog post writing techniques that I learned in journalism school, and how it can help you.
When you’re blog post writing or writing an article, you want to follow these tips to ensure that you understand the mechanics of journalism.
Journalists learn the 5 Ws in journalism school, and these are the bedrock of news stories, articles, and TV news production.
Editors will routinely ask “What’s the Story?”
The 5 Ws:
- Who are you?
- Where do you come from?
- What do you do?
- Why do you do it?
- When is it happening?
It doesn’t matter where you are in your business, you just have to start showing up. Start telling people who you are, and what you do.
Use the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHY, AND WHEN TECHNIQUE to help you tell stories….

WHO ARE YOU?
Use a couple of sentences to describe who you are…
e.g. I’m Lucy Griffiths and I’m a video strategist and coach helping entrepreneurs get more confident on video and scale their six-figure success.
Now it’s your turn…. Just a sentence or two to refine, and you can use this for your elevator pitch too.
WHERE DO YOU COME FROM?
e.g. I’m Lucy Griffiths, and I’m a small-town girl from the UK, but I’ve spent the last 10 years living all over the world working as a TV reporter, and now I’m back in London with my husband and toddler son.
Now it’s your turn…
WHAT DO YOU DO?
e.g. I help women overcome their fear of video, and help them to get confident putting themselves out there. In the process I show them how to connect to their story, how to tell stories that resonate with their ideal client, and how to use video to look and feel like a goddess!
Now it’s your go… What do you do?
